HUMBOLDT PARK — A firefighter and another person were hospitalized after a fire in the Humboldt Park neighborhood overnight Monday.

Firefighters responded to a home in the 3200 block of West Wabansia Avenue that caught fire about 1 a.m. The extra-alarm fire also spread to the home next door, fire officials said.

One firefighter who was battling the blaze experienced chest pains and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in fair to serious condition, said Will Knight, a Fire Department spokesman.

Another person was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in fair-to-serious condition. Authorities could not immediately provide details about why the person was hospitalized.

By about 3 a.m., firefighters had struck out the blaze, but several people were unable to return to their homes, officials said.
