SOUTH DEERING — Three teenage boys were wounded by gunfire while playing basketball at Merrill Park Tuesday night, police said.
The teens were playing basketball around 9:55 p.m. in the 2100 block of East 97th Street in South Deering when they heard shots and felt pain, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.
The youngest of the boys, a 15-year-old, was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition after he was shot in his leg and buttocks. A 16-year-old and 17-year-old were both shot in their legs and were taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition, Greer said.
No one is in custody for the shooting, and police are still investigating, Greer said.
In other overnight violence, a 26-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in Riverdale.
The man was in an argument with two other men around 10:15 p.m. in the 700 block of East 133rd Street when someone shot him in his back, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a Police Department spokesman.
The man was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition, Sullivan said.
