SOUTH DEERING — Two men were injured Saturday morning when a vehicle hit them and careened into a South Side restaurant, police said.

The men were arguing outside R.J. Fish 'n' Chicken, in the 1900 block of East 95th Street, after one man refused to leave with the other about 1:30 a.m., police said. One man got into his car and backed into two men, before crashing through the front of the business. The driver the fled the scene, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The two injured men were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

On Saturday morning the restaurant was in shambles as crews worked to board up the smashed storefront.

The owner of the restaurant was unavailable Saturday morning, but another business owner in the strip mall said a lot of "shady characters" hang out in the area, despite overnight security. Mary Chan, who Chan's Restaurant, said she thinks they're attracted by a 24-hour liquor store.

"I can't say anything. I just stay here for business and I don't want anything happening to my store," Chan said. "We're scared."
