Woman Stabbed to Death by Other Woman on West Side, Cops Say

SOUTH AUSTIN— A woman is being questioned in the stabbing death of another woman on the West Side early Friday, police said.

About 12:55 a.m., a 45-year-old woman was stabbed in the chin and neck during a fight with a 54-year-old woman, police said. The stabbing occurred in a first floor apartment in the 1100 block of Mayfield Avenue in South Austin, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

Shounya Burnett, 45, of the 4500 block of West Crenshaw in North Lawndale, died on the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other woman is in custody, but no charges had been filed as of 7 a.m. Friday, Greer said.
