SOUTH LOOP — Three teenage girls were arrested after they attacked two women with pepper spray, police said.

The teens approached a 24-year-old woman about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of South State Street and assaulted the woman with pepper spray, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

Ten minutes later, the teens attacked a 26-year-old woman two blocks away at 1300 South State Street, Greer said.

Police caught up with the girls a short time after the attack at 1800 South State Street and arrested them. Charges in the attacks were pending as of Thursday morning, and police said they were still investigating why the teens attacked the women.

Both victims were treated after being sprayed and were in good condition, Greer said.
