GREATER GRAND CROSSING — An Englewood man was fatally shot while running from another man attempting to rob him at gunpoint Sunday afternoon, police said.

Geremy Hoover, 24, was pronounced dead about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at Stroger Hospital after being shot repeatedly, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Hoover was walking in the 7200 block of South Wentworth Avenue about 1:15 p.m. Sunday when he was approached by a man who asked to use his cell phone, said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.

The man then pulled a gun and told Hoover to empty his pockets. When Hoover tried to run away, the man opened fire, hitting the 24-year-old several times.

Hoover, of the 7200 block of South Yale Avenue, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died.
