COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A fight in the mens room at the American Junkie restaurant in River North landed one man in the hospital with a broken jaw and another in jail.

Jawad Jaber, of the 1500 block of South Sangamon Street, is charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm. The police report filed in the case says Jaber is also known as "Crazy Jay."

He was arrested on Monday, almost a month after he and another patron at American Junkie, 15 W. Illinois St., got in a fight in the restaurant bathroom on Aug. 24, authorities said.

Jaber alleged punched a 33-year-old Streeterville man in the face, breaking his jaw and leaving him with a concussion, according to a police report.

A Cook County judge ordered Jaber held on $250,000 bail Tuesday when he appeared briefly in court.

A friend with him the night of the bathroom incident said Jaber was only defending himself when he punched the other man once.

"The other guy started it," said Butam Gorges, 27. "He shoved [Jaber] in the chest, and [Jaber] fought back."

Gorges said security guards at American Junkie told the two men to leave after the fight.

The other man "was laying on the floor, and the security guards asked him if he was okay," Gorges said. "He gave them two thumbs up and they told us to leave."
