NEAR NORTH SIDE — Prepare to resent your Ikea-filled living room.

The Modern Home Tour comes to Chicago next week, allowing the public a rare look inside some of the city's chicest and sleekest properties from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5.

"Who doesn't love to see the inside of a stranger or their neighbor's home?" said Ken Shallcross, a spokesman for the event, which curates tours of modern and minimalist home interiors in Los Angeles, Portland, Houston and elsewhere across the country.

Four homes have been chosen to feature, and as many as four more will join the roster by next week.

The lineup includes a ninth-floor condo at 1325 N. State Pkwy. designed by Daniel Tornheim, an angular home in the Southport Corridor designed by Filoramo Talsma, LLC and The Lakeview Residence, a private home on a triangular lot that won an American Institute of Architects award in 2011.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Design 4 Dignity, a nonprofit that coordinates pro-bono design work to improve other nonprofits.

Tickets are available online in advance for $30 until Oct. 4. Day-of event tickets will be available at any of the tour properties for $40 each.
