CHICAGO — A man was found strangled to death in a gangway in Humboldt Park Thursday, authorities said.

The man, whose identity was unknown, was found about 6:30 a.m. in a gangway in the 1100 block of North Pulaski Road, said Officer Veejay Zala, police spokesman.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:09 a.m. He was believed to be in his 50s, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A Friday autopsy ruled the man's death was a homicide from strangulation. An injury to his head from an assault contributed to the man's death, the medical examiner's report said.

Police were were pursuing the case as a death investigation, Zala said.
