COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Jason Munoz was sentenced Monday to 75 years behind bars for the 2007 slaying of a man trying to help a friend, prosecutors said.

Munoz, 32, was convicted on murder in the shooting death of 24-year-old Chris Himle in June, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.

He shot Himle in the chest on Aug. 31, 2007 in the 1500 block of North Maplewood Avenue in the course of a robbery, prosecutors said.

Himle and two of his friends were riding bikes when Munoz pulled one of them off his bike, pointed a gun at him and demanded money, prosecutors said. Himle turned around to help, and Munoz shot him once in the chest, killing him.

Cook County Judge Steve Goebel sentenced Munoz to 75 years in prison.
