WICKER PARK — Police in Wicker Park and Logan Square will be giving extra attention to drunk driving and safety violations this weekend.
The DUI Strike Force Patrol will start at 8 p.m. Saturday and end at 4 a.m. Sunday, according to police, who will be on the lookout for signs of impaired driving.
During DUI Strike Force Patrols, officers "place emphasis on speed, alcohol-related and safety-belt violations," police said in a statement.
Encompassing the Wicker Park, Bucktown, Humboldt Park and Logan Square neighborhoods, the Shakespeare District is bound by the Chicago River on the east, Central Park Avenue on the west, Division Street on the south and Belmont Avenue on the north.
The most recent Strike Force Patrol in the Shakespeare District (July 13-14) saw 78 total citations, including one DUI, 26 traffic violations, 31 unsafe vehicle violations, eight driver's license violations, 12 insurance violations and two towed vehicles, police said.
An Aug. 24-25 Strike Force Patrol in the Albany Park District resulted in 62 total citations, including three DUIs, 15 traffic violations, 38 seat belt and unsafe vehicle violations, six insurance violations and three towed vehicles, police said.
A June 28-29 DUI Strike Force Patrol in the Near West District netted 153 total citations including two DUIs, 36 unsafe vehicle violations, 34 seat-belt violations and nine driver's license violations, police said.
A May 24-25 DUI Strike Force Patrol in the South Chicago District resulted in 116 total citations, including two DUIs, 38 traffic violations and 19 unsafe vehicle violations, police said.
