CHICAGO — A man already charged with murdering a mother and her 5-year-old son in June has now been charged in a fatal shooting of a man on Halloween, police said.
Antonio Lewis, of the 5500 block of South Winchester Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 30-year-old Brandon Johnson, police said.
Lewis remains in a hospital after being shot on June 28, the same day police say he killed 31-year-old Chavonne Brown and her son Sterling Sims in their Back of the Yards home.
Lewis was hit with two first-degree murder charges in that incident. He was also charged with the attempted first-degree murder of Sterling's 11-year-old brother. Police say Lewis' gun stopped working when he tried to shoot that boy.
Lewis won't appear in court Friday because he remains hospitalized with his own shooting injuries.
Johnson was at his home in the 5400 block of South Wolcott Avenue the evening of Oct. 31, when he answered a knock on the door. When he opened the door, he was shot in the face.
Johnson was pronounced dead shortly later.
A gang affiliation and possible drug connection were mentioned in the shooting's police reports, though Johnson's friends insisted that the slain man wasn't a gang member.
