CHICAGO — An 83-year-old man died after he was struck by an SUV in a West Rogers Park crosswalk Tuesday night.

The man had been walking through the intersection of Devon and California avenues when a red or maroon SUV hit him at 6:22 p.m., said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

Norman David Esho, 83, of the 6300 block of North Francisco Avenue, was taken to Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said the SUV might have been a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban or a vehicle by GMC. It was last seen heading east into an alley near Rockwell Street and Peterson Avenue.

The police department's Major Accidents unit is investigating, Greer said.
