CHICAGO — A man threatening suicide was rescued from Lake Michigan in Lakeview Wednesday morning, authorities said.

Police and the fire department said they responded to a call of a person in the water off of the 3800 block of North Lake Shore Drive about 6:20 a.m.

Officers from the police department's marine unit were told a man swam away from the shore and was threatening to kill himself, according to Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

Two officers jumped into the lake and kept the man from going under before pulling him onto their police boat, Mirabelli said.

The 20-year-old man was in good condition and taken to Saint Joseph Hospital, the fire department said.
