LAKEVIEW — No riddles, brain twisters or paddleboarding here — a new scavenger hunt in Lakeview wants racers to learn new skills to move on to the next step.

In the Clever Ape Race, run by local party planners The Numbered Days, participants will be learning how to make a cocktail from a mixologist, how to Parkour and even how to perform an improv skit.

Teammates who complete the challenge win clues to the mystery location of a jungle-themed loft party — the end-game of the hunt.

"What we'd like to do is have a way to have people learn stuff to get to the after-party," said Marc Uible, The Numbered Day's owner.

Racers will check-in at Redmond's Ale House, 3358 N. Sheffield Ave. on Sept. 7, with a map of the challenge's locations on the race date. The teams of two to four will be taught some tips at each location before attempting to complete the challenge.

For example, to get one clue, racers will learn how to make a craft cocktail from a mixologist. They'll then shoot into a Bozo Bucket to determine which drink they must try to make themselves — and they better know which drinks are stirred and which ones are shaken.

At another location, teams will have to perform a two-minute improv sketch after learning a few tips from a local sketch-comedy team. The best team will win extra prizes at the end-game jungle loft party.

"What I'm looking for is an awesome shared experience between you and your teammates, and that will expand out to the 200 other people who are there," Uible said. "It leads to good things of meeting other people."

The party will feature jungle-themed activities, food and music.

The Clever Ape race costs $30 per racer and includes the race, admission to the party, a Clever Ape tank top, a craft cocktail and snacks at the party. The race runs on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The after-party goes until 3:30 p.m.
