CHICAGO — A Belmont Cragin man was killed on the Kennedy Expressway early Sunday, officials said.

Fidel Valladares, 26, of the 2500 block of North Mason Avenue, was died when his vehicle crashed in the northbound lanes near Damen Avenue at 4:38 a.m., said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the Illinois State Police.

Valladares was driving a sport utility vehicle north and lost control of the vehilce. It swerved to the left and hit the concrete median barrier, rolling over, Bond said. Witnesses attempted to save him by performing CPR. Valladares was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 a.m.

Bond said two male passengers suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. She said speed and failure to wear a seatbelt contributed to Valladares' death.
