CHICAGO — A central Illinois man was arrested in his town late Thursday night, accused of murdering a teen in South Chicago in 2007, police said.

Carl Morris, 28, of the 600 block of Harrison Drive in Quincy, a city about two hours driving from Springfield, is due in Cook County bond court Friday after being charged with the first-degree murder of Dante Atkins.

The fatal shooting occurred May 23, 2007, when Morris got in a street argument with the teen in the 7900 block of South Paxton Avenue, police said.

Atkins was believed to be a gang member, cops told the Tribune in 2007.
