CHICAGO — A West Garfield Park day care center was temporarily shuttered after a 1-year-old girl who attended the center died Tuesday, authorities said.

Tyla Carter was found unresponsive at the center, 4222 W. Wilcox St., and pronounced dead at Loretto Hospital at 2:21 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. The girl lived in Cicero, according to the morgue.

As of Wednesday afternoon, her autopsy results were unavailable, the morgue said.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has temporarily closed the West Side location until the investigation is complete, DCFS spokesman Dave Clarkin said.

DCFS was investigating an allegation of neglect in the case, Clarkin said.

The center was closed after DCFS notified the parents of four other children who were cared for there, Clarkin said.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Tyla Carter "died of neglect." The death remains under investigation and a final cause has not been determined.
