COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Rogers Park man is being held on $250,000 bail after allegedly punching another man so hard in the face that his eye popped out of the socket.

Danny Hightower, 31, was charged with one count of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm.

On July 28, Hightower was visiting a man at his home in the 7400 block of North Winchester Avenue. Prosecutors said Hightower and the man, who was selling cigarettes outside his home, got into an argument.

When the man told Hightower to leave, the argument escalated, and Hightower allegedly "struck the victim in the face causing the victim to lose his eye," according to court documents.

The injured man, 53, tried to use his phone to call for help, but Hightower took the phone and broke it, according to Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto.

Scaduto said the man eventually received medical attention and was told his eyeball could not be restored to its socket.

Hightower was arrested Sunday night near his home in the 7400 block of North Damen Avenue.

In bond court Wednesday, Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Hightower held on $250,000 bail.

It was not clear which eye came out of the socket.
