CHICAGO — Three teens have been arrested and charged in a shooting last month that wounded a 4-year-old girl and a 31-year-old man.

Laquan Waters, 18, of the 6900 block of South Artesian Avenue, and Tyrese Pearson, 17, of the 9300 block of South Greenwood Avenue, and 15-year-old juvenile were each charged with two counts of attempted murder, police said Friday evening.

The shooting happened when the teens came out of an alley, and one took out a gun and shot the girl and a 35-year-old man in the 7100 block of South Rockwell Street at 4:56 p.m. Monday, police and fire department spokesmen said.

Four-year-old Khalise Weatherspoon was shot in her abdomen and taken to Holy Cross Hospital before being transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was in good condition after the shooting, fire department officials said.

The man, who was hit in the thigh, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, the fire department said.

A police source said that the men were not likely targeting the girl, but might have been after her family, some of whom are known gang members.
