CHICAGO — A California man whose disappearance Wednesday sparked a large police search committed suicide, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Friday.
Thomas Moyer, who was visiting family in Chicago, went missing from the 6600 block of North Loleta Avenue in the Forest Glen neighborhood about 10 p.m., police said. Police issued a missing person alert for Moyer Thursday.
Family told police that Moyer suffered from depression and may have been carrying a revolver with him.
On Friday morning, Moyer's body was found in the 6600 block of North Caldwell Avenue and a gun was recovered, police said.
He was pronounced dead there at 11:10 a.m. Friday, and appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
