CHICAGO — A West Englewood man has been charged in the murder of a 5-year-old boy and his mother in June, police said.
Antonio Lewis, 18, is accused of killing 31-year-old Chavonne Brown and her son Sterling Sims in their home in the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue on June 28.
Family said two other people were in the home at the time of the shooting, including Brown's 11-year-old son. Lewis, of the 5500 block of South Winchester Avenue, tried shooting at the older boy during the incident, but his weapon malfunctioned, police said.
Later that day, Lewis was shot as he stood on the sidewalk in the 2800 block of West Arthington Avenue in East Garfield Park about 9 p.m.
Lewis was hit in the neck, buttocks and groin. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remained Friday.
Lewis, who won't be in bond court Friday, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.
