COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Niles man is facing a felony charge after he attacked a Park Ridge man outside the Emerald Isle pub in Edison Park, requiring the man to need emergency surgery, prosecutors said.

Patrick Harrison, 21, faces a charge of aggravated battery for punching the man in the face so hard that he broke his jaw in two places, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said during a bond hearing Monday.

The victim was hanging out with friends at the Edison Park pub, 6686 N. Northwest Highway, on July 21 when he went outside to check parking restrictions near the Oliphant Avenue intersection, Antonietti said.

Unprovoked, Harrison walked across the street toward the man and hit him, breaking a tooth and the victim's jaw, Antonietti said.

"The victim's mouth began to bleed profusely," Antonietti said, adding that his jaw had to be wired shut.

Harrison, of Niles, turned himself into police after he learned of the allegations against him, according to court records.

His attorney argued Monday that the incident was the result of a bar fight and that the victim "threw the first punch."

Cook County Judge James Brown released Harrison on his own recognizance.
