ANDERSONVILLE — The Neo-Futurists are raising funds to upgrade the Neo-Futurarium where the experimental theater troupe has resided at the corner of Ashland and Foster since 1992.
The campaign, which began about a month ago, aims to revitalize the theater's "State Park," which is a lobby that occasionally doubles as a performance space.
As of Monday, the theater, 5153 N. Ashland Ave., had raised about $7,300 of its $10,000 "base goal," according to the Neo Futurist's campaign page on Indiegogo, a crowdfunding website.
Ten thousand dollars would cover essential needs in the State Park including new drywall, lighting upgrades and the installation of a furnace.
The troupe's "stretch goal is $15,000," according to the campaign page. With that much money,"In addition to our base goals, the State Park floors get a makeover, and we buy new speakers for the theater," the page said.
Reaching its "dream goal" of $20,000 would enable "everything mentioned above" at the Neo Futurarium but would also allow for a new air conditioning system. More than $20,000 would pay for a full makeover for the bathrooms in the venue.
