CHICAGO — Police have launched a death investigation after a 24-year-old man was found dead on Red Line tracks Sunday night.

The man was found unresponsive on the tracks near the Grand Avenue stop in the 500 block of North State Street about 6:30 p.m., said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

Sheffy Abraham, 24, whose home address was unknown, was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Abraham's injuries were consistent with being hit by a train, said Catherine Hosinski, a CTA spokeswoman, citing preliminary information. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

On Sunday night, Red Line trains heading southbound ran along the elevated tracks between Fullerton Avenue and Roosevelt Road, Hosinski said. Northbound trains ran normally, but didn't stop at Grand.
