LOGAN SQUARE — Galerie F will be celebrating its one-year anniversary this weekend, kicking it off with a print exhibition inspired by much-loved children's book author Roald Dahl.

"The Fantastic Mr. Dahl" will feature 18 art prints inspired by 18 Dahl books or stories, such as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "The Witches," and "Matilda."

The artists, all from Europe, each picked a book or story by Dahl and then created an original illustration for it.

"If they chose 'The BFG,' it could be a character, an illustration for the cover of the book, an excerpt to the book, whatever they chose," Galerie F co-owner Billy Craven said. "There are 18 artists and 18 titles."

The exhibit's opening reception Thursday evening will double as a one-year celebration for Galerie F, 2381 N. Milwaukee Ave., that will include a live "Adventures in Design" podcast from 9-11 p.m. and free posters and other swag for the first 50 people to arrive.

Galerie F describes itself as the first "open-door" gallery in Chicago, meaning anyone can walk right in and peruse the art without an appointment.

It specializes in screen prints, gig posters and street art.
