LINCOLN PARK — This weekend, Lincoln Park's back and front yard gardens will be in the spotlight accompanied by music from JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound and Poi Dog Pondering.
The 45th annual Sheffield Garden Walk & Music Festival set for Saturday and Sunday will feature garden tours, guided architectural tours of the neighborhood and one of the festival's top music lineup in years.
Although the weather has not been kind to the plants this summer, 80 gardeners have volunteered to let guests visit their gardens.
In 2012, the Garden Walk had to compete with five other city festivals, so attendance was down. But this year, the organizers behind the fest are predicting a large turnout.
"We are hoping for a great year with the lineup and nice weather," said Patty Hayes, who has been a lead organizer for 10 years. "It's important that people understand that all of the money goes back into the neighborhood."
Self-guided garden tours will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Visitors will receive an 80-page guidebook detailing all the gardens and a pullout map.
Guided garden tours will take off at 3:30 p.m. each day.
The festival will also feature a kids' corner with rides, a moonwalk, petting zoo and magic acts.
The festival suggests a $7 donation if you arrive before 3 p.m. and a $10 donation after that.
