Police Looking for Driver of Mercedes in Fatal Hit-and-Run on South Side

CHICAGO — Police are looking for the driver who fatally hit a 77-year-old man in Auburn Gresham Wednesday morning and then took off from the scene.

The man was struck by a dark-colored Mercedes in the 8300 block of South Racine Avenue about 7:05 a.m., cops said in an alert.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Arthur Johnson, of the 8200 block of South Throop Street. Johnson was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday.

Cops described the car as a two-door 2002 to 2005 Mercedes C230 with passenger-side windshield damage and driver-side hood damage.
