CHICAGO — A man tried to ditch his gun and shirt in Dumpsters to evade police after shooting a man in Uptown Sunday, prosecutors said.

Navarro Phillips, 28, allegedly shot a 33-year-old man about 7:05 p.m. Sunday in the 5000 block of North Kenmore Avenue, police said.

Phillips walked up to a group of people and shot the victim in the right leg. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

A witness saw Phillips run, and he tried to ditch his gun and orange shirt in two different Dumpsters to evade capture, prosecutors said.

Police recovered both the gun and shirt, prosecutors said.

Phillips, of the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road, was charged with aggravated battery and possession of a gun by a felon, court records show. He was ordered held on $250,000 bond.
