CHICAGO — Police issued an alert to warn Near North Side residents about recent robberies in which two men have attacked people and stole cellphones and money.

The most recent assault happened Saturday in the 800 block of North Franklin Street about 1:20 a.m., according to the alert. Before that, a similar incident happened in the 900 block of North Franklin Street on June 29 at 1 a.m., police said.

Two men approached the victims while they walked down the sidewalk or got out of a car, according to the alert. In each robbery, they punched a victim and demanded a cellphone and money before fleeing. In one incident, the men took off in a silver-colored car, according to police.

Cops described the attackers as two black men with dark complexions, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10 and weighing 150 to 170 pounds.
