CHICAGO — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is the latest addition to the Blackhawks bandwagon.
Before the Blackhawks' thrilling overtime win in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the orchestra performed a "classically inspired" rendition of "Chelsea Dagger," the song that plays each time the Blackhawks score a goal.
Orchestra director Riccardo Muti donned a personalized Jonathan Toews jersey during the number and announced that a recording of the performance will be given to the team.
“The CSO musicians and I are happy to honor and support another home team, the Chicago Blackhawks, with our music,” Muti said in a statement.
“They are a world-class hockey team, and we hope this recording demonstrates our support of them and their desire to bring the Stanley Cup back to this great city."
The orchestra performed the song during a rehearsal for upcoming performances of Verdi's "Four Sacred Pieces" scheduled for June 20-23 at the Symphony Center.
The Blackhawks evened the series after a 6-5 overtime victory in Game 4 Wednesday night. The teams will take the ice again at 7 p.m. Saturday for Game 5 in Chicago.
