CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department will crack down on drunken drivers at 53rd Street and Ashland Avenue from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday.
The check is one in a series "to keep the city streets safe," Supt. Garry McCarthy said in a statement. Police will slow down traffic and watch for impaired drivers, police said.
A similar crackdown on the West Side May 17-18 resulted in 23 people being charged, included five for DUI.
"This program is conducted year-round to ensure drivers are operating their vehicles safely," McCarthy said.
