UPTOWN — An Uptown-based nonprofit that supports the homeless through various programs is putting on a food drive this month.

Inspiration Corporation is collecting donations of nonperishable food items throughout June.

"The rising cost of food is making it harder for us to stock the pantries at Inspiration Cafe and The Living Room Cafe," Inspiration Corporation said in a Facebook post, referring to two cafes in Uptown and Woodlawn, respectively, where homeless Chicagoans participate in culinary training programs.

Inspiration Corporation asked people to "clean out the pantry and bring your canned peas, corn, refried beans, tuna, boxes of Rice-a-Roni and other shelf-stable foods" to either Inspiration Cafe at 4554 N. Broadway or The Living Room Cafe at 806 E. 64th St.

The organization also invited supporters to start their own food drives with friends and family.
