Lady Arm Wrestlers Fight for Charity at the Logan Square Auditorium

LOGAN SQUARE — They come with names like Anne Hackaway, Calamity Pain and Killer Bee, but only one will be victorious.

They are the women of the Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers and they will meet once again Friday night to clutch fists and battle for forearm superiority — all for charity, of course.

It is CLLAW XVI, and as the name suggests, it is the "Sweet 16" of the CLLAW grapplefests that launched in February 2009, with each event benefiting a different local charity.

Friday night's match will feature "fearsome lady arm wrestlers decked out in over-the-top outfits, a cash bar, shady referees and audience participation all wrapped into one wild, crazy, theatrical event," according to the event press release.

It is their second outing at the Logan Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie Blvd., where CLLAW XV saw 675 wrestlers contend in October.

This year's event will benefit Community Counseling Centers of Chicago as well as the nonprofit theater that presents it, Sideshow Theatre Company.

Chicago bands The Black Laces and The Lucky Shiners will perform and audience members can get in on the action by purchasing "CLLAWBUX" they can use to "bet" on their favorite wrestlers and "maybe slip a few to the referees to even the score," the release said.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the CLLAW website.

Doors open at 10 p.m. and the first match will start at 10:30 p.m.
