CHICAGO — Police are warning Auburn Gresham residents of a surge in armed robberies in the neighborhood.

Police say the robberies took place between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., May 10 to May 23. A man displays a gun or implies he has a gun, and then takes the victims' purses, wallets and phones. The robberies occurred in the 7700 to 7800 block of South Ada Street. Police could not say how many robberies have occurred.

The robber is described as a black man, 40 to 55 years old, 5-foot-8-inches to 6-foot tall, and weighing 180 to 200 pounds. In one incident he was said to be 17 to 20 years old.

He has been seen wearing a dark jacket, a blue or black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. In one incident, he wore a skeleton mask and white gym shoes.
