Fire Breaks Out in Abandoned Building, One Hospitalized for Asthma

CHICAGO — One person was hospitalized for asthma after a fire broke out in an abandoned North Lawndale building Thursday morning, the Chicago Fire Department said.

The fire started sometime before 5:50 a.m. inside a three-story vacant building in the 1400 block of South Kenneth Avenue, the Fire Department said.

Firefighters soon called for an escalated response and crews rushed to the scene to control the blaze.

Someone was taken from the area to Loretto Hospital in fair condition due to asthma, according to the Fire Department.

The flames were under control by about 7:30 a.m.

The cause of fire was not immediately clear.
