WEST ROGERS PARK — Fliers and door hangers advertising UNO Rogers Park's new high school were spread throughout the neighborhood after the Chicago Board of Education approved the charter school's expansion to offer high school classes and double the number of students it can enroll.

Early last month, the board reinstated UNO's contract and allowed the Rogers Park charter, which now offers only kindergarten through eight-grade courses, to offer grades nine through 12.

Matt Moeller, UNO's chief of academic affairs, said last month the school plans to offer ninth-grade classes in the fall, then add a grade level in each subsequent year through 12th grade.

He said the school had received more than 100 applications from families interested in enrolling in ninth-grade classes.

UNO's Rogers Park campus, at 7416 N. Ridge Blvd., currently serves 500 K-8 students.

In fall 2012, UNO opened suddenly in West Rogers Park on St. Scholastica Academy's campus after the all-girl Catholic school ended regular classes. Its last senior class, however, continues to occupy the top floor of the building.

The board's resolution also increases the total number of students allowed at the school from 630 to 1,340, the highest allowed at any of the other 17 UNO charter schools, according to documents.

The Rogers Park campus would also be the charter's first K-12 school.

UNO is now allowed to enroll nearly 11,000 students citywide.
