CHICAGO — An 83-year-old man out for a bike ride died after he was struck by a car on the Northwest Side Tuesday night, authorities said.

Leonard Ratajczyk was riding in the 7900 block of Irving Park Road a few blocks away from his home when the car hit him about 9:10 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and Officer John Mirabelli, a Chicago police spokesman.

Ratajczyk, of the 3900 block of North Pacific Avenue, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital and pronounced dead at 11:51 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.

The driver of the car was ticketed for failure to reduce speed, Mirabelli said.
