COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man was charged with attempted murder after he brutally attacked a 62-year-old man at a South Side gas station Saturday morning, prosecutors said.

Cordaro Fife, 24, of the 5300 block of South Hermitage Avenue, was absent from court Sunday as prosecutors laid out the case against him. In addition to attempted murder, Fife was also charged with aggravated battery of someone more than 60 years old, according to court documents.

The beating was captured by surveillance video, prosecutors said.

Fife began beating a 62-year-old man as the victim walked across the parking lot of a Citgo gas station in the 2000 block of West Garfield Boulevard Saturday morning, according to prosecutors and court documents.

Fife punched the man in the head and then kicked him repeatedly after he fell to the ground, according to Cook County State's Attorney Elizabeth Dibler.

Fife left the man with multiple facial fractures, Dibler said. He also dislocated the right lens of the victim's eye, Dibler said. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital.

Officers an patrol saw the victim staggering and bloody near the gas station, according to court documents. The victim and a witness who said he saw the beating pointed cops to Fife, who was walking eastbound toward another gas station, court records show.

Fife, a Gangster Disciple, was arrested Saturday morning.

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese ordered Fife held in lieu of $1 million bail on Sunday.
