SOUTH LOOP — After years of vacancy, the lot at Harrison and Wells streets is suddenly a hotbed of activity — but don't get your hopes up about new housing or shops coming to the neighborhood.
Construction crews have been working since late April to build a small-scale cityscape for a movie shooting on location this summer, according to Mary May at the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events.
Crews and the city are tight-lipped about what movie project requires the mini-city, but it's likely one of two films scheduled to shoot in Chicago this summer: "Divergent," based on a young adult novel, and portions of the Warner Brothers sci-fi feature "Jupiter Ascending."
They'll be far from the only camera crews rolling through the city in the coming months. TV pilots "Doubt" and "Influence," both dramas, have been shooting scenes in Chicago neighborhoods since mid-March.
Notices posted near the site warn that parking on the south side of Harrison Street will be suspended from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through the end of May to accommodate the movie location.
