When TheDailyMeal.com ranked four Chicago hot dogs among the best in America — more than any other city — there was only one thing to do.
“Let’s eat ‘em all,” fellow reporter Kyla Gardner said.
And that’s what we did.
At 11 a.m. Thursday, Ol’ Karaoke Kyla and I brunched on America’s best — the “Mighty Dog,” a hot dog stuffed in a tamale, covered in chili and all the fixings at Fat Johnnies Famous Red Hots in Marquette Park.
At noon, we hit Hot Doug’s in Avondale — No. 3 on the list — to taste the Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage.
By 1:30 p.m. we made it to Superdawg to gobble a “Superdawg,” the sixth-best hot dog in the country.
And finally — after battling North Side traffic and taking an emergency potty break at Starbucks — we hit The Wiener Circle at 3:30 p.m. to grab a “Double Chardog,” the 27th-best hot dog in the good ol’ USA.
It wasn’t pretty.
