CHICAGO — Chicago police like a local alderman's post on her Facebook page - it helped them catch a wanted man.
Police issued a community alert and sketch of a man wanted for sexual assault and robbery April 13 in Dunning.
After Ald. Mary O'Connor (41st) posted the alert to her Facebook page, police received information allowing them to identify the man, officials said.
Antonio Lamont Nettles, 41, of suburban Forest Park, then turned himself in and was charged in connection with the two attacks, police said.
Nettles allegedly sexually assaulted a woman while threatening her with a knife. In another attack, he allegedly tried to force a woman into an alley while saying he had a knife. He robbed her and knocked her to the ground before fleeing, officials said.
O'Connor posted the community alert to her Facebook page with the message: "Updated alert, with sketch of suspect. Please keep your eyes open and call 911 immediately if you see anything suspicious." It was shared 618 times.
Nettles was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated robbery, one count of kidnapping force or threat and one count of attempted kidnapping, police said.
