Beer Temple to Raffle Off Ticket to Dark Lord Day

AVONDALE — If you didn't get a ticket to the Dark Lord Day at Three Floyds in Munster, Ind., there's one more chance.

The Beer Temple, 3185 N. Elston Ave., will raffle off a single ticket in a drawing Friday night, the eve of the all-day celebration of its namesake Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout.

Dark Lord Day has grown rapidly since its inception in 2004, and tickets for the event — which will also features half a dozen metal bands — sold out nearly as soon as they went up for sale.

So for a chance at the ticket and a free ride to the festival, 36-year-old owner Chris Quinn said all a beer fan needs to do go to the Beer Temple Friday evening and be there when the raffle is held.

"But they have to be there when the drawing is held," he emphasized.

To make the wait easier, Quinn and company will be pouring Goose Island vintage ales starting at 5 p.m.

Then the Temple will open back up at 7 a.m. to start shuttling beer fans across the border into Indiana and Dark Lord country.

For those who didn't get a golden ticket, or for those who simply can't have enough Dark Lord, The Beer Temple will be offering a seven-year "vertical" of the beer on Sunday, meaning beer from each of the last seven Dark Lord Days will be available to taste.

"So you can see how it changed over time," Quinn said.
