Mark Konkol and Paul Biasco Talk Crime in Post Cabrini-Green Old Town

By Jackie Kostek | April 25, 2013 12:13pm

OLD TOWN — Reporters Mark Konkol and Paul Biasco sat down with DNAinfo.com Chicago's Jackie Kostek to lay out what's happening in "Sedville," a volatile pocket of vice around the old Cabrini-Green housing project.

"There's a clash of class, race, violence and people who want to feel safe," said Konkol, who teamed up with Biasco for a special report on the problems neighborhood residents are facing, including the January slaying of Sedville's Tyshawn Blanton in what was a suspected gang retaliation ambush

And the gentrifying neighborhood has a new problem woven into the tale.

The Chicago Public Schools plan to close Manierre Elementary this fall, forcing Sedville kids to cross into rival gang territory to get to their new school, Jenner.
