CHICAGO — Two people were injured when several cars collided during back-to-back crashes on North Lake Shore Drive early Saturday.

At 7:24 a.m., police responded to an accident involving an SUV near the West Belmont Avenue exit, said Officer John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.

The driver of the vehicle, whose gender and age were not immediately available, was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

A police SUV from the Town Hall district arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, Mirabelli said. The additional officers were on hand to perform traffic control and protect the accident scene.

At 7:36 a.m., a woman driving a separate vehicle rear-ended their parked police SUV. She was taken to a local hospital, Mirabelli said.

No police officers were injured.

No further information was available early Saturday.
