CHATHAM — The South Side non-profit organization We Women Empowered of Chicago Inc. will sponsor an awards program Monday in which each honoree will receive an award named after an influential community activist, said Josephine Wade, the organization's president.

"This is our way of honoring these pioneers that paved the way for so many people," Wade said.

Among the 67 honorees are Carol Adams, chief executive officer of the DuSable Museum of African-American History (Margaret Burroughs Trailblazer award); the Rev. Byron Brazier, pastor of Apostolic Church of God (Bishop Arthur Brazier Trailblazer award) and Cathy Hughes, founder and president of TV One (Madame C.J. Walker Trailblazer award).

Wade will also host the event, which starts at 6:30 p.m., at her South Side restaurant, Josephine's Cooking, 436 E. 79th St.

Tickets are $50 and are available at the restaurant. A table of 10 is $500.

The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the organization, which plans to use the money to help underprivileged children.

Additionally, a special tribute to the late gospel singer Albertina Walker will take place during the Stellar Awards, which will also be held at the event.
