LINCOLN PARK — Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) is hosting a meeting to launch an anti-burglary campaign and to discuss the revamped CAPS program.

Former burglars will be on hand at the meeting at the DePaul Art Museum, 935 W. Fullerton Ave., Wednesday to provide tips to prevent burglaries.

Home break-ins and burglaries have been a constant topic from concerned residents at recent CAPS meetings in both the Near North and Town Hall police districts.

The new anti-burglary campaign will be called the "Lock Your Door Campaign," as many burglaries and robberies from vehicles happen when residents leave their doors unlocked, according to police.

Representatives from both police districts are expected to explain the revamped CAPS program at the meeting, which will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. They'll also present steps to residents to make their homes less attractive to burglars.

A similar meeting with former burglars was held in Lakeview in late March as part of the Chicago Police Department's "Keepin' It Real" burglary workshops.
