CHICAGO — Firefighters fought a blaze in an empty building on the Southeast Side Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out on the third floor of a building in the 7900 block of South Essex Avenue about 6:30 a.m., the Chicago Fire Department said.

Firefighters did not enter the structure but battled "heavy" flames from outside, the fire department said.

The blaze was under control by about 7:50 a.m., according to the fire department. There were no reported injuries.
