Police Arrest 28 in Near North 'L' Robbery, Mag Mile Fights

By DNAinfo Staff on March 31, 2013 8:23am

CHICAGO — Nearly 30 people were arrested Saturday in two separate incidents Downtown.

The first occurred on a Red Line "L" train about 6:35 p.m. near the CTA State/Lake station, where 11 individuals were involved in a robbery involving two female victims, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The second incident, about 7-7:40 p.m., was a fight among 17 people, including 15 minors. All 17 were arrested on misdemeanor reckless conduct charges, and no one was injured in the fighting, Greer said.

Greer said that two incidents weren't related and police aren't calling either a "mob action."

In the first incident, police spotted the group as they were leaving the station after the robbery and arrested them, Greer said.

The group, which coordinated the trip Downtown on Twitter, included many people who hadn't met each other before Saturday, Greer said.

Eleven in the group were charged with battery, while two of the minors were charged with strong-arm robbery, Greer said.

The victims had bruises but were not taken to hospitals, Greer said.
