CHICAGO — An East Garfield Park man died early Saturday after he lost control of his car and hit a pole, police said.

Delmond Strong, 32, of the 3600 block of West Polk Street, was driving northbound on the 3100 block of South Western Avenue about 3 a.m. when he lost control of his Mercury Sable, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The car struck a light pole and rolled over, pinning Strong inside, Greer said.

Strong was unresponsive and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:22 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Greer said Strong was alone in the car.

As of Saturday morning, it was still unclear what caused the accident.
